Why this blog?

This site exists for several reasons:
1. It’s a place to share thoughts, ideas, developing opinions with our community.
2. I hope it becomes more of a two-way street, with readers adding their insights to stories we’re working on.
3. While journalism is still best done objectively, I believe, no one should be under the illusion that journalists don’t develop a point of view. On certain topics, this space will be one where reporters can let readers see where they are coming from. Their stories can be written without a bias, even if the reporter has one. But why not make it possible for readers to judge that for themselves, understanding the viewpoints of the writer.
