The Lady Raiders edged out the Colfax Bulldogs with a last-second three pointer in the first round of the state 2B basketball tournament at U-Hi.
Down 28-17 at the half, Lake Roosevelt changed up their plans and came out fired into a new game, and caught up to Colfax in the fourth quarter.
Coach Peewee Pleasants admitted he had been “totally out-coached” in the first half and said his heart stopped “about five or six times” in the final quarter with the margin swapping back and forth on one or two points.
“Then it became a game where it was on the girls.” Pleasants said. “It didn’t matter who was coaching. … It just came down to the girls — who wanted it the most.”
The Raiders were up by three with just seconds to go when Colfax sunk a three-pointer.
With 2.2 seconds on the clock, coach called a time out and instituted a play the Raiders had started practicing about a month ago for “this exact situation,” Pleasants said.
The ball was inbounded to Jada Desautel, who sunk the trey at the buzzer for a 45-42 win.
Check back for video tomorrow morning.
